Since joining forces with Network Entertainment in 2015, Adrian Buitenhuis has directed documentaries on Pablo Escobar and Suge Knight as part of the seven-part Facing series for National Geographic, as well as feature documentaries for Paramount Network and worldwide distribution including I Am Heath Ledger, I Am Sam Kinison, I Am Paul Walker, and most recently, I Am Patrick Swayze.  

 

Adrian started his career as a documentary photographer, moving into filmmaking while completing his MFA in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts at Simon Fraser University. Adrian’s ability to engage with people and convey their personal stories has created an intimate body of documentary work that continues to grow.  
 
Adrian has segment produced content for over 300 episodes of network television, worked closely with Queen Latifah as a field producer and director for her projects, and developed, directed, and produced documentaries for Vice Media. Adrian joined the DGA in 2015 and has directed second unit for multiple award shows and music-driven content. His first independent feature is currently awaiting release: Spirits in the Stone, produced through his company Intertidal Films, which follows the story of the world’s oldest known living culture, the Jawoyn Aboriginal tribe.
